St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center has been informed by Dr. Terry L. Cline, Secretary of Health & Human Services and Julie Knutson, President and CEO of Academy for State Goals that they have been selected as a Certified Healthy Business. Certified Healthy Business, a program of the Shape Our Future Campaign, recognizes businesses that make a positive impact on employee health.
St. Mary’s encourages employee participation in community health related events such as HeartChase, 4 R Kids Walk, Relay for Life and March for Babies, to name a few. In many cases the hospital supports these initiatives with monetary donations and/or sponsorships in addition to encouraging employee participation in these health-related events. We participate in many health fairs each year, giving health professionals an opportunity to educate our community about healthcare. Additionally we offer a Healthy Connections program which lists health professionals willing to present programs on a particular service we offer.
The BirthPlace offers Sibling Classes throughout the year. The class is for children whose mom is expecting a new baby. Using a baby doll to demonstrate, the nurse instructs the big brothers/sisters on safety procedures, such as how to properly pick up and hold a baby. The children also tour the BirthPlace so they will know what to expect when their mom is ready to have the baby. The children in the class also draw a picture of their family. When the baby is born the child’s picture is posted on the door of their momma’s room.
Our inclement weather policy ensures safe access to and from the facility and a safe environment for patients, personnel and visitors. In the event of inclement weather (snow and/or ice storms) the Maintenance Department ensures that all outside surfaces, according to the publicized route map, are clear for pedestrian travel. In addition, employees are encouraged to take advantage of our hospitality house for sleeping arrangements if the weather is bad for travelling and they have a distance before reaching their home. The hotline gives up-to-date information for employees to check who needs to report to work.
There are three levels of certification; basic, merit and excellence. St. Mary’s earned the Excellence certification and will be honored on May 1 2012 at an awards luncheon at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City.
