Digital Mammography

Mammography

Different from traditional mammography, which creates images on film, digital mammography takes electronic images of the breast and transfers them directly to a computer.

The results are faster, clearer and sharper, allowing even very tiny tumors and other abnormalities to be detected and evaluated.

To schedule an appointment, please call 580-249-3771.

Breast Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a noninvasive, non-radiation examination. It is used to detect disease and locate possible abnormalities. It is used also to monitor the growth of an unborn child. Sound waves are used in ultrasound technology to obtain a medical image. St. Mary's ultrasound systems are designed to provide doctors with more precise images for easier, more efficient diagnosis of serious health problems. The system performs highly complex scanning techniques, such as high-resolution panoramic imaging or 3D scanning, all in real time. At St. Mary's, certified and highly skilled ultrasound technologists are supervised by a board certified radiologist.

Bone Density Testing/DEXA

Osteoporosis is a growing healthcare crisis affecting millions of women and men worldwide. The healthcare costs assoiciated with osteoporosis are staggering, and the effects on quality of life can be devastating.

Fortunately, osteoporosis is detectable and treatable. Testing is safe and noninvasive.

St. Mary's uses Hologic's bone densitometry systems, which  perform the most comprehensive evaluation of bone density.

Mammotome Breast Biopsy System

In a breast biopsy performed with the minimally invasive Mammotome Breast Biopsy System, a small probe is inserted into the breast through an incision about the size of a match head. Vacuum is used to gently draw, cut and collect tissue into the probe's hollow chamber. This biopsy technique enables several samples to be acquired resulting in a highly accurate breast cancer diagnosis. Since multiple tissue samples are obtained without removing and reinserting the probe, there is less internal scarring, which minimizes interference with future monitoring and diagnosis or breast abnormalities.

Following a breast biopsy using Mammotome System, the patient is typically sent home with a small adhesive bandage to cover the incision. The breast biopsy can be completed in less than one hour and is performed in an outpatient setting without general anesthesia or stitches.
