Medical Library

St. Mary's Regional Medical Center offers the only full-service medical library in Northwest Oklahoma. Our mission is to
provide high quality information resources for evidence-based decision-making at St. Mary’s. Guided by the strategic initiatives of the hospital as well as professional library standards, the library supports the patient care, educational and research needs of the hospital community. A full-time medical librarian and several volunteer staff members are available to help with your informational needs.

HOURS
The library is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. For the medical staff and management, a key is located at the switchboard and is available for checkout during off hours.

COLLECTIONS
Currently, we hold around 150 medical journal subscriptions, over two thousand medical books.  For patron convenience, a unique noncirculating core collection of reference textbooks are maintained in most of the clinical specialties and are available at all times. Journals are noncirculating. A photocopier is available for copying of library materials for St. Mary's staff, employees and affiliated hospital professionals free of charge. The public is asked to pay ten cents per copy.

SPECIAL SERVICES
The library provides computerized research services to St. Mary's Regional Medical Center's active medical staff and employees, free of charge. All others are assessed a fee for this service. A photocopier is available for copying of library materials for St. Mary's staff, employees and affiliated hospital professionals, free of charge. The public is asked to pay ten cents per copy.

The medical library staff coordinate support service for the staff and employees including Interlibrary loan and document delivery services, book acquisitions and processing, library orientations, and educational activities, such as internet instruction and the basics of database searching, and the Continuing Medical Education programs.

LIBRARY COMPUTERS
Our computer area consists of two personal computers. The computers are connected to the hospital’s network which allows access to the internet and other network applications. The medical library has multiple databases which the hospital staff may access.

Database Subscriptions

Several databases are available for our medical staff and employees. Access to these are provided on the hospital’s network or you may contact the library at 580-249-3092 or email at karen.worsham@uhsinc.com for user ID and password.

McGraw-Hill’s AccessMedicine
A Web site offering up-to-date clinical health information and access to the LANGE educational Library.

PubMed
This service of the U.S. National library of Medicine includes more than 15 million citations from MEDLINE and other life science journals for biomedical articles. PubMed includes links to full articles and other resources.
 
MedlinePlus
MedlinePlus offers information from the U. S. National Library of Medicine and includes health information, drug information, medical encyclopedia, health news, medical dictionary and links to thousands of authoritative health Web sites.

WebMD
WebMD has one of the highest profiles of the consumer health Web sites. According to this site, it "provides valuable health information, tools for managing you health, and support to those who seek information". It also includes a Drug Watch section that lists warnings, alerts, recalls and other drug news.
 
FDA
Food and Drug Administration’s Web site provides safety information about drugs, food and medical devices and other regulated products.
 
CDC
The Web site of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offers national health statistics and information on disease prevention.
Their mission is to improve the quality, safety, efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare for all Americans and includes links to evidence-based medicine, clinical practice guidelines and much more.
 
National Guideline Clearing House
A public resource for evidence-based clinical practice guidelines and related documents.

OSTMED®
The Osteopathic Literature Database is a bibliographic index to the osteopathic medicine literature.
 
Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Review
A free weekly publication from the CDC.

Patient and Family Health Library

Everyone is invited to come and browse through the thousands of brochures and pamphlets that line the walls Topics covered range from Alzheimer's Disease to Ziegler's Syndrome, and include  preventive health and wellness information.

The Library offers:

  • Fax Service—25 cents
  • Advance Directive forms
The Patient and Family Health Information Library is located on the first floor of St. Mary's Regional Medical Center by the north elevator and is open to employees, patients and the general public.

The hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. A medical librarian and hospital volunteers are available to help with any questions or other information needs.

Finding credible, reliable and accurate health information on the internet can be a challenge.
