The U.S. Food and Drug Administration's website provides safety information about drugs, food, medical devices and other regulated products.
 
CDC
The website from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention offers national health statistics and information on disease prevention.
 
WebMD
WebMD has one ofthe highest profiles of the consumer health websites. According to this site, it "provides valuable healthinformation, tools for managing you health, and support to those who seek information". It also includes a Drug Watch section that lists warnings, alerts, recalls and other drug news.
 
Food and Drug Administration
This site highlights the agency's mission to protect"the public health by assuring the safety, efficacy, and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, medical devices, our nation’s food supply, cosmetics and products that emit radiation.”
 
Family Doctor
Developed by the American Academy of Family Physicians, this site provides “health information for the whole family.” This colorful site is a valuable resource for family members of all ages.
 
Mayo Clinic
Developed by the Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research, this site aims to “empower people to manage their health” and offers information about health conditions and diseases, features about topics such as digestive disorders and babies’ sleeping habits, pages that address mental heath and fitness and more.
 
NOAH: New York Online Access to Health
compiled by a team of New York medical librarians and health professionals, this site provides consumers with up-to-date health information. The home page links to a list of health topics by body area or disease category, an alphabetical index of al information on the site, and a “page of the month” that highlights a page within the site. This site is easy to read and navigate and is available in English and Spanish from the very beginning.
 
The Merck Manual of Medical Information, Second Home Edition
Developed by pharmaceutical firm Merck, this site is the online edition of the company’s popular Merck Manual Medical textbooks. Numerous books are available and it includes a multimedia section with photographs, audio and video. It is updated regularly and searchable by keywords.
 
Healthfinder®
by the Department of Health and Human Services and the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion. Includes topics on diseases and conditions, prevention and wellness, alternative medicine and drugs, as well as encyclopedias, dictionaries and journals.
 
The National Women’s Health Information Center
This site is a service of the Office on Women’s Health of the Department of Health and Human Services. It is a gateway to information covering the very broad topic of women’s health and health-related issues.
 
NORD: National Organization for Rare
unique federation of over 140 not-for profit health organizations serving people with rare disorders and disabilities. Access is available to their Rare Diseases Database, an Organizations database and an Orphan Drug database. Fees are charged for the full-text reports.
