The Program Offers Intensive Inpatient Therapy
February 2, 2023
If you or a loved one are in need of rehabilitation following an illness or injury, the Rehabilitation Institute at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center can help.
Calvin Nordyke, 70, was an inpatient at the Institute following a heart attack and bypass surgery in September 2022. He received physical, speech and occupational therapies during his 18-day stay. “I was in bad shape when I came to rehab, I couldn’t even move around and had lost a lot of weight,” explained Calvin. “The staff were wonderful and helped me get my life back. They helped with my speech, walking, getting dressed and climbing stairs. I now look forward to buying a new motorcycle and enjoying my life again. I feel great.”
Brittney Buller, MS, CCC-SLP, Rehabilitation Institute Program Director, believes Calvin really is a miracle. “It was truly amazing and awesome to see him, with the help of his nurses and therapists, make such good progress, meet and surpass his goals and get his life back.”
Comprehensive Inpatient Rehab Services
The Rehabilitation Institute, established in 1989, offers comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation services including intensive inpatient therapy (at least three hours a day, 5-7 days a week), 24-hour nursing care, on-staff dedicated rehabilitation physician and neuropsychologist, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, case managers and dietary services.
Our program is dedicated to treating individuals with the following conditions or injuries:

- Neurological disorders such as Parkinson's, Multiple Sclerosis, Guillain Barre
- Cardiac conditions
- Orthopedic injuries
- Peripheral vascular disease
- Respiratory failure
"We are the only inpatient rehab in Northwest Oklahoma within a 65-mile radius,” explained Buller. “Patients and their families do not have to drive a long distance to get quality inpatient rehab.”
Buller added that since its inception, there have been over 20,000 people who have benefited from the inpatient rehab unit. “The staff of the inpatient rehab unit have always been high achievers. We are always looking for ways to provide the highest level of quality care that allows the patients to reach their individual goals and return to their previous lives. Because we are in Northwest Oklahoma, which is really a tight knit community, many of the patients we treat are family and friends.”
Nationally Recognized for Quality Care
Since 1992, the Rehabilitation Institute has been accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities® (CARF) with a stroke specialty certification. For the past two years, the unit has been recognized in the top 100 inpatient rehab units by U.S. News & World Report. In addition, the Rehabilitation Institute was again ranked in the top 10 percent of inpatient rehabilitation facilities (IRFs) in the US. The rankings, which were based on cases discharged between October 2021 and September 2022, are provided by Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation (UDSMR®, LLC).
