The Program Offers Intensive Inpatient Therapy

February 2, 2023

Patient and therapistIf you or a loved one are in need of rehabilitation following an illness or injury, the Rehabilitation Institute at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center can help.

Calvin Nordyke, 70, was an inpatient at the Institute following a heart attack and bypass surgery in September 2022. He received physical, speech and occupational therapies during his 18-day stay.  “I was in bad shape when I came to rehab, I couldn’t even move around and had lost a lot of weight,” explained Calvin. “The staff were wonderful and helped me get my life back. They helped with my speech, walking, getting dressed and climbing stairs. I now look forward to buying a new motorcycle and enjoying my life again. I feel great.”

Brittney Buller, MS, CCC-SLP, Rehabilitation Institute Program Director, believes Calvin really is a miracle.  “It was truly amazing and awesome to see him, with the help of his nurses and therapists, make such good progress, meet and surpass his goals and get his life back.”

"We are the only inpatient rehab in Northwest Oklahoma within a 65-mile radius,” explained Buller. “Patients and their families do not have to drive a long distance to get quality inpatient rehab.”

Buller added that since its inception, there have been over 20,000 people who have benefited from the inpatient rehab unit. “The staff of the inpatient rehab unit have always been high achievers. We are always looking for ways to provide the highest level of quality care that allows the patients to reach their individual goals and return to their previous lives. Because we are in Northwest Oklahoma, which is really a tight knit community, many of the patients we treat are family and friends.”
